Andi (Andrea Schwartz) Naab is a life-long Midwesterner. Born
and raised in Iowa's suburban/old-farming area called
Pleasant Valley, she has a great love for nature, and the
outdoors. After graduation she attended the University of
Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, and returned to work in the Quad
Cities area. She relocated to Cedar Rapids for several years, but
is now settled in Rock Island, Illinois.
The Native American culture has had an important influence in
her life with some distant ties to her heritage. "My mother and
Uncle have also been very strong influences regarding my
Native American interests. We've shared a deep love and
appreciation of this culture; from stories, art, pottery, jewelry,
music, and tools. I love to draw and paint Native Americans ...
some sense of their spirit seems to enlighten or inspire me as I
draw or paint their image. Our North American countryside, the
Rocky Mountains, the Southwest, and our Midwest have helped
mold me since childhood."
Watercoloring is Andi's current love as an art medium. "My
daughter has been an inspiration for my little garden fairies,
and we're having so much fun. I've always loved drawing and
painting flowers and little girls separately so, now I'm
combining the two. Sometimes she models for me."
" I truly enjoy many "artsy" subjects. After a garden walk I might
paint watercolor florals for a while, then become inspired after a
beautiful hike to paint plein aire oil landscapes. And then after
reviewing some family pictures I might paint portraits. I think the
act of creating and/or expressing an inspiration is something I
feel strongly about ... I "need" to do it. I loved making "art stuff"
as a kid, and I wasn't too bad at it ...and I still love it."
Andi has worked with stained glass, metal and wire sculpture,
ceramics, beaded jewelry, basket weaving, gourds, needle
felting, and other mixed media; in addition to doing pencil,
charcoal, and ink drawings, and painting with pastels, acrylics,
oils and watercolor.
